The event was attended by the leadership of the Institute of Friendship of the Peoples of Cuba, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Central Committee of Cuba, members of scientific and academic circles, as well as Cubans who received education in Azerbaijan.

First Vice President of the Institute of Friendship of the Peoples Noemi Rabasa made a speech in which she spoke about the history of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Cuba, friendly ties between the countries, as well as successful cooperation carried out to further strengthen these relations.

She emphasized that Azerbaijan traditionally supports Cuba during the annual vote in the UN General Assembly on the lifting of the economic embargo, and expressed gratitude for this position on behalf of the government and people of Cuba.

Rabasa noted that the memory of Heydar Aliyev is honored with great respect in Cuba, and recalled his good impressions of Cuba, as well as warm relations with the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the country Fidel Castro.

Then the Ambassador of Azerbaijan to the Republic of Cuba Ruslan Rzayev spoke.

He informed the participants of the event in detail about the invaluable merits of the National Leader in the development of Azerbaijan both in the Soviet period and in the years of independence. The Ambassador spoke about the leadership of Heydar Aliyev during the formation of independent Azerbaijan, emphasizing that it was thanks to his efforts that the country became a strong state confidently declaring itself in the international arena, and that his political course is successfully continued today by President Ilham Aliyev.

Professor of the University of Havana Oscar Julian Villar Barroso also spoke at the event, talking about the political legacy of Heydar Aliyev, his activities during the Soviet Union and his significant contribution to the development of independent Azerbaijan.

He covered in detail the important economic projects implemented by Heydar Aliyev in difficult times for the country - during the Karabakh war and social and economic difficulties. In particular, he noted that it was thanks to Heydar Aliyev's wise oil strategy that Azerbaijan's energy resources entered international markets and the country still occupies a leading position in this area. The existence of close friendly relations between Heydar Aliyev and Fidel Castro was also emphasized.

At the end of the event, a documentary about the life and work of Heydar Aliyev, translated into Spanish with the support of the Azerbaijani Embassy, ​​was shown to the participants.
